WIMA is delighted to welcome a new national division in Iceland, formed and led by Sæbjörg Sylvía Kristinsdóttir (better known to her friends as Begga.)
Begga is a mother, grandmother and biker who started riding in 2006 and has been riding ever since.
She is also President of Dykes on Bikes Iceland, a member of Skvísur Norðanheiða motorcycle club and she is on the board of the Motorcycle Museum of Iceland in Akureyri. As a consequence, Begga already knows about half of the female bikers in Iceland.
The motorcycle culture is strong in Iceland – although weather conditions play a big part by restricting motorcycle riding to the summer months (May-September).
Attitudes towards all biker women are positive in Iceland with a national motorcycle rally taking place every year for men and women with other regular gatherings organised.
Plans are already being made to grow WIMA Iceland with Begga holding talks and a photo exhibition at the motorcycle museum, all about her week spent with other WIMA members at the 2022 International Rally held in Melchtal, Switzerland.
WIMA has been around for over 70 years, bringing together women interested in motorcycling and we continue to grow with active divisions in 40 countries around the world. Iceland is an exciting addition to our sisterhood.
