Pirjo Kivimäki

International Historian 2012-2024 and Ellen Pfeiffer Award recipient in 2024

I have been riding my motorbike for over 30 years and a WIMA Finland member since 1999. Annually, I ride between 10–20,000 km, mainly around Europe and I have attended nearly all WIMA rallies since 2004 in Borculo, Netherlands. I fell in love with the atmosphere of WIMA World immediately.

I have held various positions within WIMA. I was vice president of WIMA Finland between 2007 and 2008. In 2011, I became vice president again, and then I became president in 2013 and held this position until 2019. I was a member of organisation teams for the international WIMA rallies in 2008 and 2018. In 2012, I was elected international historian and I am proud of the work I do for WIMA. I am responsible for the WIMA archive and have, among other things, digitised historical photos and documents.

I was privileged to be the ambassador of WRWR (Women Riders World Relay) in Finland in 2019.

I live in Vantaa, in the south of Finland, where I work as an event producer, but I spend a lot of my time travelling around, mainly in Europe with my Ducati Monster. I am looking forward to seeing you at the next WIMA rally.

(2022)

This is the nomination that was submitted by WIMA Liechtenstein:

Pirjo is a long term enthusiastic motorcyclist and she is our valued member since January 2021, holding a sustaining membership. She is a member of Ladies’ Bike Club (LBC) WIMA Finland since 1999 and riding motorcycles already for about 35 years. Pirjo rides up to 20 000 km a year not only touring in Finland, but also abroad to discover Europe. She visited many countries mainly riding her Ducati Monster 660 ccm, her companion for many kilometres if on long or short-distance rides or just her vehicle to ride to work on daily routine. No doubt to call her an experienced motorcyclist with international skills in various aspects! Pirjo is well known in the WIMA World community as she attended almost all WIMA Rallies starting with the rally in Borculo in summer 2004, hosted by WIMA Netherlands. To describe simply using her own words shows her cordial connection to WIMA to the best: ‘ I fell in love with the atmosphere of WIMA World immediately’.

Pirjo’s WIMA career started already in 2007 taking the role of the vice president of LBC WIMA Finland. Since then she held various positions within WIMA World.

In 2013 she was chosen for the presidency of LBC WIMA Finland, until 2019. During her terms of office she managed as head of the organisation team two WIMA International rallies hosted by WIMA Finland. Both Rallies had been of a great success with unforgettable memories for all participants.

On international level she was elected in 2012 to take the role of the WIMA International historian, who is responsible for the WIMA archive.

Additionally she was ambassador of Finland during the Women Riders World Relay (WRWR) in 2019. Within this role she was also advertising WIMA and she was encouraging and inspiring several ladies to join WIMA.

As Pirjo is also an event producer by her profession she is well experienced in all matters coming along whilst fulfilling all those tasks in the past and still fulfilling her current position of the WIMA International Historian. We are grateful for her constant support by sharing her experience and ideas. She is of a great importance towards women in motorcycling in Finland but also internationally.

This year Pirjo celebrated her 25th Anniversary of being a member of the WIMA World.
