Ellen Pfeiffer Award recipient in 2010
This is the nomination that was submitted by WIMA Netherlands:
Mieke is a motorcycle riding woman, who for many years now has organised annually a ‘Lady’s Day’ through the Dutch ‘Twentse Motorcycle Club’.
These yearly events were so successful that she thought there must be more women out there, particularly in The Netherlands, who would also be interested in joining in.
So, in 2000 she created an internet website with a bulletin board where all motorcycle-riding women can exchange their thoughts, experiences and motorcycle business.
Through this communication avenue, came a request for a National Bikesters Day, which since the year 2000 has become a permanent annual event!
The first National Bikesters Day was made up of 80 participants and took place on the 2nd Saturday in June. An enormous success and a pleasurable ride nonetheless! The participants were so enthusiastic that it is now a tradition every 2nd Saturday in June where Mieke remains the leading factor.
It is my opinion that Mieke deserves this award based on her enthusiasm for her yearly event and the passion she shows for motorcycle riding.
She knows how to bring many motorcycling riding women together (this year 140 participants) and not only in The Netherlands but riders from Belgium and Germany! If you view the bulletin board on the Bikesters Website, www.bikesters.nl (2025 update: the website is no longer available) you will see firsthand the daily entries by women and for women!
