WIMA Switzerland was founded in 1978 by Juliette Steiner and the earliest members of the WIMA Swiss Division were Regula Rüttimann (Biernath), Margrit Geissmann (Podesser), “Nandle” Nandy Schüpbach, Pierrette Iseli (Froidevaux) and Esther Spahr. Our division currently has 50 members. WIMA Switzerland gathers women with one thing in common: the passion to ride motorcycles. We have an annual programme with various activities during the year, but the highlight is always the international rally where we travel to meet WIMA friends from all over the world.

Some memorable moments in WIMA Switzerland’s past:

1979 Scout Trophy – Motto: Castles, palaces and ruins – Time frame: lst March to October 30th. The winner was whoever had visited and photographed the most objects.

1989 The snow fun weekend was once again a success. At least in terms of registrations and mood. Despite the fairly high humidity (i.e. rain), some stalwarts tried the slopes anyway. Most of them, however, paid homage to the dog sled race that took place nearby.

1992 Venice Carnival. From Gritli’s point of view: A coffee in the Schiggimiggi Café Florian costs Fr. 1 1.40. Four nights in Venice and we were broke.

1994 Gold digger weekend in the Napf area. Everyone found what they were looking for and the tiny gold splinters were best taken care of in a glass jar with a magnifying glass. Only one person got rich and that was the landlord.

1995 Comment from Françoise: Where can you get the best raclette with all the trimmings, including homemade mushrooms? Where can you still see and hear authentic pictures and stories from the motorcycle pioneering days? At Juliette’s in Yverdon, of course!

We have organized several international rallies: 2022 Melchtal, 2013 Val de Travers, 2006 Hoch Ybrig, 1998 Les Tuileries-de-Grandson, 1991 Steinen, 1984 Morbio-Superiore, 1980 Bumbach, 1976 Yverdon.
