About WIMA Netherlands
WIMA Netherlands officially started in 1981 and has 75 members. Throughout the year all sorts of local activities are hosted by members at home. We call them TB, ‘thuisbijeenkomsten’, in English: ‘home meetings’. In April, we have our Open Weekend, which is also for women who are not members (yet). In May and September, WIMA NL meets for a WIMA- weekend. These are camping weekends that take place in the Netherlands or in a neighbouring country, like Germany, Belgium or Luxembourg. Our annual Autumn Walk is another opportunity to chat and laugh and we also have a Winter Weekend in January, so we can meet throughout the year.
There is a large group of very active and enthusiastic members who participate in several activities and help organise them. We have an annual official meeting (AGM) in March. The digital newsletter is published six times a year. We have a website and a Facebook page and we are taking our first steps on Instagram. Many of our members attend the international rallies and, depending on the location, about 25 members go. And they always have a good time. We have organised several international rallies: 2010 Markelo (European meeting), 2004 Borculo, 1997 Heythuysen, 1989 Eiland van Maurik, 1983 Spaarnwoude, 1966 Aalst, 1963, 1960, 1958 all in Scheveningen. The international rally 2021 in Grolloo was sadly cancelled at the last minute due to the coronavirus pandemic, although some WIMA members were able to travel to Grolloo for an alternative rally and spend a nice week together.

Sandra Ilbrink, President 2017-2025
I got my licence in 1996 and made a lot of day and weekend solo trips. And then, in 2005, I discovered WIMA. I became a member and after a month attended my first international rally in Sweden. What a blast! I currently ride a BMW F800ST.
Many tours, rallies, and friendships later, in 2017, I was asked to take over from Dutch NP Bernadette Hanekamp. She did the job for 10 years, with success, and is still a very active member.
For me as a leader of WIMA, it is important that our members can feel at home, can make friends, and be themselves. We look after each other, on the road, at the campsite and many of us also on a day-to-day basis. I believe when you feel comfortable, you like to join and organise activities, you think ‘we’ and not ‘me’, you give and get help when needed. And above all, you have a great time, with nice and cool ladies, sharing your passion for motorcycling. In 2021 it was our 40th anniversary, though we were unable to celebrate it because of the coronavirus pandemic.
Géke Sieben, longest member
Géke has been a member of WIMA NL for 41 years, longer than anyone else. She joined right at the start in June 1981 and she is still an active member. In 2011 she became our member of honour. She has helped in the organisation of all the Dutch rallies since WIMA NL officially started and has attended many international rallies as well.
Géke said in 2023: ‘I started biking when I was 22; now I’m 72 and after 50 years I will stop biking this year! Not because of age, but my partner wants to have a few more years with me without worrying about my safety when I’m on the road! But Switzerland will not be my last Rally! My first bike was a Suzuki 250 two-stroke, then three BMWs and lots of Hondas, Yamahas and one Kawasaki Ninja! In the photo I am beside a Ducati Indiana.’
