About WIMA Nepal

WIMA Nepal was started in 2020 by Women in Motoring, a group of women enthusiasts working for women empowerment through motoring-related activities in Nepal. It had a composition of the following executive members: Ms. Sanju Bajracharya (coordinator), Ms. Sunita Deshar, Er. Shreejana K.C., Ms. Prativa Gairhe, Ms. Pragya Adhikari, Ms. Puja Bhusal, Ms. Namrata Prasai, Ms. Soni Tandukar. This team submitted the proposal to WIMA International requesting affiliation for the Nepal division. The team was guided by Mr. Govinda Prasad Bhattarai (as a patron) during the whole procedure.

We had been actively helping women to get opportunities in sports and boosting women to achieve their goals. In continuation of that, we started ‘Women in Sports and Adventure-Nepal’ – a nationwide voluntary campaign in women empowerment. We got knowledge about WIMA and as we share a common objective towards women empowerment, we were eager to initiate WIMA Nepal.

The team Women in Motoring was later transformed into WIMA Nepal after getting affiliation. The WIMA Nepal team now has the following composition of executive members: Sunita Deshar (coordinator), Pratibha Gairhe (joint coordinator), Usmita Thapa (secretary), Sony Tandukar (treasurer), Durga Gongba Tamang, Nirmala Bhandari, Sulakshana Khadka.

We now work specifically to enhance and promote women in motorcycling through WIMA and as a separate organisation it is easier for us to grow nationwide and connect internationally. The pandemic halted the growth of WIMA Nepal but despite Covid-19 we managed to host a successful TikTok competition and held an award ceremony.
