About WIMA Malaysia
WIMA Malaysia was founded by Nor Zaida York on 11/11/2011 after being advised and inspired by Sheonagh Ravensdale from WIMA GB. WIMA Malaysia consists of a small group of 45 lady riders with a range of motorcycles of various brands and types from 125cc to 1400cc. Malaysia’s clean, straight highways and curved roads, as well as off-roads throughout the country, enable us to experience and enjoy the kind of riding we prefer. We tend to chase the sunset in the west and sunrise in the east of the peninsular. Speed is not our priority – our primary aim is to enjoy every kilometre of the ride and reach the destination safely.
Some WIMA members are also a member of other active lady biker groups. WIMA Malaysia has no limitations for anyone wishing to join any other group as long as we ladies remain united and supportive of each other. We have the similar motive of riding motorcycles and a mutual feeling of having fun and excitement. It enables us to meet and interact with different people, connects us to our surroundings, gives us freedom, and improves our overall well- being.
In 2018, we held the Asian Women Force Rally as part of International Women’s Day with 78 women participating from Indonesia, Brunei, Borneo and Malaysia. It was supported by the Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development. Its main purpose was to promote the rise of the women empowerment movement.
We would like to welcome anybody from WIMA, from anywhere in the world, to contact us and to come and visit us in Malaysia. Let’s go riding together into the wind!
Notable members
Nor Zaida York, Founder and first President
Nor (to the right)has been riding since the 80s. She is well-connected to the international motorcycle traveller community and regularly hosts international travellers.
She successfully organised the Malaysian leg of the WRWR. Nor tirelessly promotes WIMA Malaysia, inviting more ladies to join. She organises many trips either locally or abroad to the neighbouring countries: Thailand, Singapore and Indonesia.
Solo Arrrya, President since 2020
I have been riding since the 90s and the motorbike is my primary mode of transportation. My first bike was a Kawasaki EN 500. I commuted 100km from home to work daily with my bike until my retirement in 2020 from the government social security service. Currently, I am enjoying riding a retro cafe racer-styled Kawasaki W800. It’s ideal for tooling around town enjoying the vintage charm. I have covered most of the Malay Peninsular but have yet to reach Borneo. The farthest I’ve been with this bike was Phuket Island, Thailand, 1000 km away.
