About WIMA Germany
WIMA Germany was founded by Ellen Pfeiffer in 1958 at the first European meeting in the Netherlands. Women coming from Germany, the Netherlands, England and Switzerland took part in the rally. Over the years, WIMA Germany has hosted a total of 14 rallies in Germany and a further four have been organised in other countries by German members. In the early days, rallies mostly took place at racetracks like the Nürburgring or Hockenheimring. Female racing riders like Margit Blum (then VP of the BMW Club Germany), Brigitte Döhler (as a former test rider in East Germany, she was only able to take part in Eastern European rallies) and Helga Heinrich-Steudel (also a racing rider in East Germany at that time) shaped the image of WIMA Germany. Margit and Brigitte are still active WIMA Germany members. The WIMA idea quickly caught on and many enthusiastic female motorcyclists, who easily covered 10,000 or more kilometres a year, found their way to WIMA, e.g. Monika Greiderer, Beate Eberstein, Ole Fuhrmann, Elke Löhnertz, to name but a few. Today, WIMA Germany has about 350 active members.
In 2018, we had our WIMA Germany 60th anniversary celebration at the Tonenburg in Höxter, a legendary biker meeting place. WIMA Germany feels like a big family to us. We ride motorbikes together, we celebrate together, and every single woman is a part of this family. To dive into a foreign culture every year and to travel to countries you otherwise would not have gone to, that is what WIMA means. Being part of the international family, that is WIMA for us.
Although we had to cancel the German WIMA Rally in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, there were quite a few German members who still made their way to Wilnsdorf/Siegerland. It turned out to be a very nice “alternative WIMA week”. The WIMA community sticks together even in hard times. We look optimistically to the WIMA future. Our younger German members are going to keep the wonderful WIMA history alive.
Notable members
Ellen Pfeiffer
Founder and first president. WIMA’s award for exceptional achievement is named after her and Ellen is featured in the Ellen Pfeiffer Award page and as Continental Division Captain.
Floh Petit
Floh became our second WIMA Germany national president after being treasurer of the European WIMA for several years. Floh led WIMA Germany for 18 years until 2002 in an untiring one-woman-show. She managed all the organisational tasks alone, later on supported by her daughter Sascia, who rode to her first WIMA Rally as a pillion. She continued to work as International WIMA Treasurer until 2007 and she received the Ellen Pfeiffer award in 2022. Read more about here here.
Verena Reindl
Verena took over as national president in 2002 and, with the help of a team of WIMA women from Munich, she led the division for 17 years. Verena led the division with great enthusiasm and commitment and represented WIMA Germany in countless meetings and rallies during this time and was always, and at any time, approachable for every WIMA woman.
Susi Metzner
Susi has been national president of WIMA Germany since 2019. “I got my motorcycle licence in 1990 and have had a variety of motorcycles over the years and have lived and ridden in various countries. I joined WIMA in 2003 and have participated in most international rallies since then. In 2007, I was part of the organisation team for the international rally in Plothen and in 2014 I was elected to the board of WIMA Germany, mainly responsible for the registrations for the rallies.”
