About WIMA Austria

WIMA Austria is the Austrian division of the Women’s International Motorcycle Association, active continuously since 1996. The club brings together a diverse group of women from various backgrounds, all united by their shared passion for motorcycling. Members range from beginners to experienced riders, spanning different professions, age groups, and riding styles (on-road, off-road, racing, and touring). At the moment 35 members. 

The club organizes regular activities, including monthly Stammtisch meetings in Vienna, ride-outs, and special events like the annual D.A.CH Meeting (a national gathering with members from Germany, Austria, and Switzerland), or participates in Ladiescamp (the largest all female training and experience event in Austria): An increasing number of members is actively participating in the yearly  International WIMA Rallies.  Wima-Austria also host a WIMA Day ride in May, and the annual Halloween and Christmas Ride.  In addition to rides and social events, WIMA Austria engages in charitable activities, such as supporting Ukrainian refugees and child cancer research.

Chris-Maria Baumer, President since 2020

I started riding 1987 during my college education in engineering. My first riding experience was along the iron curtain (border), so I learned off-road riding too. I then took a break – business career and children stopped my biking for a few years. In 2009, I rediscovered motorcycle riding again, and I bought a Kawasaki Versys 650. As always, when I am focused on something, I did it to the extreme. You name it: off-road racing, track races, skills training, tours, motorcycle repairs and so on. A lot of bruises still remind me of this. 

My first WIMA contact was in 2015 when I visited the monthly Stammtisch for the first time and I was excited to hear stories about touring together and experiences during international rallies. Through my work for WIMA, I have tried to give back a little, be it currently as merchandise officer in WIMA International, as a guide for the new WIMA Austria tours and trainings that I constantly organize and now as WIMA Austria’s president. My goals: I learned a lot from the start of WRWR and brought this experience with me. It is important to know the needs of potential and current WIMA members and to give them an opportunity to live those. In Austria, motorcycling is purely a hobby, and not a necessity, so our focus is on having fun together and the adventure of constantly discovering new motorcycle areas. 

As president, I have started to bring young blood into the organization, so that we can adapt more easily to new circumstances and be successfull for another 25 years

Uli Scholda

 Uli was awarded the Ellen Pfeiffer Certificate of Honour in 2015 and is profiled in that section. The Austrians say that without Uli, there would have been no WIMA Austria. 

Recent Activities 

In 2024, WIMA Austria hosted the 5th D.A.CH Meeting in Krakauschatten, a scenic location on the border of Styria, Carinthia, and Salzburg. The club remains active on social media, encouraging women of all skill levels to join and experience the camaraderie of riding together.
