2021 The Netherlands, Grolloo, 2-7 August — cancelled

Though the 40th-anniversary WIMA Netherlands rally had to be cancelled, 45 riders from eight countries enjoyed an alternative week of scenic rides, swimming, campfires, music, and camaraderie – proving adventure and friendship endure.

Report written by Sandra Ilbrink, President WIMA Netherlands.

The preparations for the International Rally 2021 were special and exciting as it was the 40th anniversary of WIMA Netherlands. But unfortunately, after three years of preparation, we had to cancel the rally three weeks in advance due to Covid-19 restrictions.

However, an ‘alternative motorbike week’ took place in Grolloo after all, organised by the owner of the accommodation. It turned out to be a very nice week and the weather co- operated well. Both the Dutch and some visiting foreigners were pleased that this alternative was available.

There were 45 participants in total, 25 Dutch and 20 foreigners, from eight divisions: Austria, Curaçao, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, The Netherlands and Switzerland. Some of them were there the whole week, others part of the week and because it was a relatively small group it was easy to socialise.

We gratefully used the routes that had already been prepared and apart from motorcycling, we swam, did sports, shopped at Motoport and sampled some culture. At the campsite there was a campfire every evening with music and singing. There were also three evenings of dinner together.

It was a lovely week and so nice to still be able to gather in this Covid-19 period after going through all the preparations for the rally.
