The WIMA FANTASTICA 1999 rally was organised by Monika Greiderer from WIMA Germany who found a venue in her homeland in the beautiful Austrian Tyrol. The week’s celebrations were at a comfortable terraced camping site by the lake, set in its own meadow with a communal marquee and a campfire area right next to the lake.
The leitmotif of this WIMA was to find out if there is ‘sin in the Alps’. All games and tasks were based on this theme. The conclusion was that there is no sin in the Alps because everyone is too tired in the evening!

Women on their hot irons met in Walchsee in the Kaiserwinkel
The Walchseers were amazed and at the same time pleased that around 270 women from 16 nations had chosen their village as the destination for this WIMA meeting on their ‘hot irons’. The oldest WIMA rider at Walchsee was 68 years old, and the furthest travelled came from Finland.
Munich-based organiser, Monika Greiderer, wanted to bring this special women’s motorcycle meeting to her homeland, and was helped by many volunteers.
In Walchsee, the motorcyclists were spoilt with culinary delights. The local young farmers surprised the visitors on the welcome evening with some hearty home cooking, typical grilled Tyrolean pressed dumplings. The opening evening was also attended by the local mayor who came to the campsite to officially open the event.
Everyone was treated by the local folk once again during the treasure hunt around the Wilder Kaiser Mountains, this time with their home-baked curd strudel. The sun was shining with the faces of the women; everyone agreed it was a very successful meeting in a beautiful country with warm and open-minded people.
For the first time, there was also a daily award ceremony with the winner of the day and a WIMA choir, where we all sang the specially composed WIMA song together every evening. Overall, it was a very nice, fun and harmonious WIMA, with the best weather and a great venue right on the lake.
Photographer Annette Johann captured some atmospheric images with her camera, which proved that not only the ‘expert’ handling of the machine is essential for the women; you could also be very feminine.
The week’s event programme was:
- Monday – Games on the meadow, welcome evening with dinner and live music.
- Tuesday – Trial competition.
- Wednesday – Summer tobogganing competition.
- Thursday – Rally.
- Friday – Free day. Farewell dinner and award ceremony.
Every evening in the marquee there was a disco, drinks bar and barbeque stand.
