The Continental Division Rally in 1981 was organised by Elke Weiß (now Elke Maria Löhnerz). Chantal Hertrich from France shared her memories of the fun she had at the rally. With additional information here from Elke Maria herself.
We were two French Girls to go to this rally, organised by Elke Maria. Marie Ange, my sister and me, Chantal. We arrived after a rainy trip and planted our tent on the field. We didn’t know many persons and were happy to meet some Italian girls. It was their first WIMA rally.

There was Maria on a 3 1/2 Morini, Lidiana, Loredana and Rita with her husband Eduardo. We spent a lot of time with them. They didn’t speak German and it was hard for them to understand the programme and all the explanations. I tried to translate…Not always easy! I think that Floh Petit and Margrit Podesser were there also.

There was a woman who had a French Christian name of a man: Etienne! Her parents liked this name and thought that it was a girl’s name. Like Fabienne, Adrienne, Emilienne, Julienne……
During this week, there was a touristic rally in the area, and we could ride with a go-kart and bicycles on a circuit. And we could take part in a Sicherheits training session from ADAC (learn to handle difficult situations in traffic with your bike – to always be safe).

We could learn how to ride better with our bikes. The instructor was a tall blond German man, very athletic. His name was Arthur. We learned many good things during this long day!!!! Hot day, many women in shorts, crop tops, light clothes, some without bras…. The man was very excited.

At the end of the day, we spoke together, between girls, and noticed that Arthur invited some of us, separately, to go out with him for the evening!!! He invited one after the other…. Not one of us accepted…. Later, when we spoke of that, we laughed very much! Poor Arthur!

After this week, I came back home with Marie Ange, very happy and hoping that we could go to Scotland, in Fort William, for the next Rally in 1982.
Elke Maria added that two other activities were a Stelzenlauf (stilt walk) and a Gymkhana which she did on her 175 ER Kawasaki.
