This is a piece by Louise Scherbyn in the newsletter about the 1964 Continental rally: No report has been received from the Continental Captain Jopy Deijs-van Dinter concerning the results of the Continental rally held at Fulda, Germany. However, Ellen Pfeiffer has reported she had a wonderful time and has sent some fine photos of members who attended the Rally, and a report of the trial results for which I am deeply grateful.
We are happy to report that Juliette Steiner is feeling much better from her serious injuries due to last year’s accident. She is now learning to drive a car which will be of considerable help to her in getting about.

WIMA meeting at the Wasserkuppe
Once again, the WIMA girls had their meeting. This time we went to the Wasserkuppe (Editor’s note: a mountain in Hesse, the highest peak in the Rhön mountains near Fulda) and everyone, but everyone came. It is a great pleasure to see how the rush increases from year to year, because there were many new faces and many new machines this year. The meeting was not quite as international as in previous years, because apart from Jopy from Holland and Kirsten from Denmark, everyone came from our vicinity (if you still want to include Hamburg and Pforzheim in the vicinity of Fulda). Also, you could have thought you were at a BMW meeting, because the little Honda and the Kreidler didn’t stand out too much in the big bunch, but wait – two Bonnevilles were there as well.
In any case, a leisurely time was spent together, and the area around the Wasserkuppe was simply ideal for romping around. We stayed on the Rhönring (Editor’s note: a circular local street), but despite that, a few trees were still standing afterwards. Even the spirit of the Rhön (Editor’s note: a folkloric mountain spirit usually depicted as a bearded old man) flattened his ears in amazement when he was faced with a company of leather ladies. With a smile, however, he later put up with our quiet songs on the lute and sang along vigorously.
In addition to a trip across the Rhön and along the zone border (Editor’s note: i.e. the border to East Germany), there was also an off-road competition on our programme. Three laps had to be ridden twice on a very nice circuit with obstacles. It was a joy to watch the girls hurling their heavy machines around the course. Many a husband was left speechless in amazement when he saw how quickly and skilfully his delicate wife took the most difficult hurdles.
Unfortunately, the end with the big award ceremony came far too quickly, but we are sure that we will all see each other again next year. Kirsten Peschel from Denmark was the overall winner. A quick holiday tip for people on a tight budget and with romantic minds, who love old buildings, low traffic and beautiful areas: a ride to the Rhön is not a mistake!
